Billy Ray Cyrus has spent decades in the spotlight, but recently he shared a deeply personal story that had little to do with fame, music, or success.

It was about prayer, survival, and what Cyrus believes was a miracle from God.

In a 2026 interview with PEOPLE, the 64-year-old country singer revealed that he nearly lost his life during a severe battle with sepsis in 2024.

“I got really sick and almost died,” Cyrus recalled.

His condition became so serious that his entire body was swollen, and according to Cyrus, doctors eventually told him to get his affairs in order.

But in the middle of one of the darkest periods of his life, Cyrus turned to God.

“God, Please. I Need a Miracle.”

While going back and forth between the hospital and home, Cyrus said he found a particular rock where he would kneel and pray.

It became what he called his “prayer rock.”

Morning after morning. Evening after evening. Cyrus returned to that spot.

His prayer was simple:

“God, please. I need a miracle. I need a miracle.”

Cyrus said he prayed there so often that his knee developed a white mark from repeatedly kneeling on the rock.

There was no guarantee that his circumstances would change.

Eventually, doctors were preparing Cyrus for what he described as one final surgery.

He arrived at the hospital expecting another procedure.
